Catwalk Theatre dazzles during LMFF

A product of OC Communications and Events, Catwalk Theatre met the hype with a production showcasing some of the nation’s finest emerging and established designers. Chambord cocktails sent conversations flowing before guests – including 2009 Project Runway; winner Anthony Capon and Australian actress Jane Turner – were seated in the theatre-like set-up of Melbourne’s BMW Edge.

The show came to life with a performance from CircaNICA graduate, Jessica Ward, who expressed the creativity of dance with a contortion, hand-balancing act.

A posse of professional dancers from Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance followed – donning Alexandra Harper’s patterned, black and white millinery pieces; the energetic ensemble performed an equally elegant routine.

The true essence of catwalk commenced with towering beauties draped in Autumn/Winter 2010 trends – live fashion stories written with several bound-to-be season must-haves.

Exceptional collections were presented by Paula Kyle Walden, Sally Jones, Ever Layne, Nikolina Concepts. Lisa Maree, Eva Q Design, Fauve, Justine Davis and Made in Donald however the highlight came in the dangerously dark designs of Metal Couture and Daniela Orlando.

Made in Donald

Metal Couture designer William Griffith had the audience transfixed with designs seemingly plucked from a Labyrinth-like world shaped by goblin infested kingdoms and concealed trapdoors.

Neck-pieces, rings and masks embellished with moonstones, labrodorite and amethyst teamed with gothic cathedral architecture, skulls, ships and blades for a dangerously tempting display of fine craftsmanship.

Daniela Orlando paired panel detailing with black croc-skin in a thigh scraping piece not for the faint-hearted and melded inspiration from Balmain and Russian culture in a jacket shaped with over-zealous shoulder-pads and sleeves flushed with fur – segmented by studs.

Hair was directed by Joe Cotroneo from Zink Hair in Adelaide and his team who produced looks reflecting forthcoming trends and the essence of Catwalk Theatre. 1940s inspired Hollywood glamour shone through soft finger waves and preened curls that framed the face, whilst super-slick pony-tails spoke of a sophisticated season ahead.

Amber Renae and Mindy Jackson

Host Amber Renae concluded the evening by inviting Mindy Jackson from Rogue Traders to venture on stage – the musical luminary announced lucky audience member Em Carman as winner of the evening’s door prize: a Mini for the weekend.
