Nicola Finetti and Joico at RAFW

Nicola Finetti’s architectural background was plain to see at his Spring Summer 09/10 RAFW outing.

Strong shapes, clean lines and curved silhouettes formed the basis of the collection that was inspired by the ‘soft cubist’ lines of Art Deco artist Tamara De Lempicka.



Draped satins, cut-outs and soft-edged scalloping added to the feminine drama while exaggerated and defined shoulders leant a futuristic vibe.

Tulip skirts were almost lady-like were it not for their sky-high hemlines and figure-hugging fabrics. Textiles popped with shades of burnt orange and shocking pink offset by neutral tones of white and beige in this modern yet classic collection.

Having flown in especially for the show, Canadian hair genius and Joico International Guest Artist Lance Blanchette created a series of architecturally inspired hair looks that were classic yet thoroughly modern – much like Finetti’s latest offering.

Slick ponytails sprouted crimped ends in a look that was edgy with a feminine bent. Tight ponytails had a very sharp finish as if you could cut your finger on the hairline - an ultramodern feel for an elegantly contemporary collection.
