This landmark achievement represents the first time a hair and beauty college has become a finalist in the highly esteemed awards and is a milestone for college CEO, Maureen Houssein-Mustafa, who has watched her initial investment of $1600 grow into a formidable operation that turns over almost $9 million per annum.
“This is an extremely proud day for our team as it not only puts the beauty profession on the map, but recognises all our efforts in having built an incredible state-of-the-art facility that offers high quality education to students, and sets an exceptionally high industry standard,” said Houssein-Mustafa.
The college is Australia’s largest Registered Training Organisation in the hair and beauty industry and provides 13 nationally-recognised qualifications in hair, beauty, nails, makeup, hospitality, business and teacher training to domestic and international students.
The college environment is modelled on actual working premises and boasts 66 hairdressing stations, 40 beauty areas, 28 nail, 10 pedicure and 16 makeup stations that run around the clock throughout the week and on weekends. 300,000 students have graduated from the college since it first opened its doors in 1994.
In other exciting news for the college, it has recently become the first hair and beauty college to be granted Australian Government approval to operate as a VET FEE-HELP provider, joining only a small group of colleges in the country with this status.
The VET FEE-HELP, which is very similar to the university HECS system, allows students to study VET (vocational education and training) accredited Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma hair and beauty therapy courses, and pay their tuition fees once their income reaches the minimum threshold for repayment.
“Our strong commitment to education has resulted in us recently entering into an agreement with Victoria University, becoming the Sydney campus for the Melbourne-based institution. This will allow us to deliver new tertiary level training opportunities, which is a first for our industry. Our approval by the Government as VET Fee-Help Providers which means that more students will be able to follow their dreams and afford an education in an area they are enthused about,” said Houssein-Mustafa.
All courses offered under the VET FEE-HELP scheme provide a pathway to university qualifications. The Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management can lead to a Bachelor of Business while the Diploma of Beauty Therapy can be credited towards a Bachelor of Health Science (Dermal Therapies), equipping students to work alongside plastic surgeons and other medical professionals.
