Tracey Hughes' South African safari

Redken Australia’s Artistic Director, Tracey Hughes, travelled to South Africa recently to demonstrate the latest colour, cutting and styling techniques.

Hughes brought her fresh perspective to the Redken Look and Learn Seminar in Johannesburg, where she began by demonstrating simple and effective colour techniques – she created eight looks in total that could be adapted in the salon to complement the shape of any haircut.
Throughout the seminar, Hughes showed hairdressers how to reinvent commercial cuts by playing around with sections and patterns with various hair lengths – numerous pre-prepared models showcased her skill. An editorial styling demonstration brought the seminar to an appropriately inspirational close.
The final tour stop on the tour was Cape Town for the Redken Master Class Workshop which was dedicated to building on the existing skills of the more experienced stylists with more progressive cutting, colouring and styling techniques.
The 20 stylists in attendance were lucky enough to have the opportunity to work one-on-one with Hughes, whose main objective was to encourage them to analyse their own work and use fresh ideas and techniques to push creative boundaries.
“The overall experience was just amazing, to be able to get to know the industry all the way over there.” Hughes said of her South African adventure. “One of the things I love about the Redken culture is that no matter where I go, it always remains the same."
