BIBA Academy and Salons host The Outsiders

BIBA Academy and Salons recently held a fundraising event for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) by hosting The Outsiders on November 16 2009 at Red Love in Melbourne.

The Outsiders was an initiative developed by Josh Mihan and Marcello Gueressi from BIBA Moonee Ponds, who decided to take action after hearing about a colleague’s family member battling the disease.

“As a community, BIBA wanted to extend a helping hand and  support the NBCF which was a charity close to our hearts,” said Marcello.

“It is the little things that we do in our everyday lives that can make a difference and with a show like tonight, hopefully we can, by taking one more step in the right direction,” he added.

Over 150 guests enjoyed the show as 20 hairdressers from seven BIBA salons showcased the latest trends in hair and fashion with over sixty models.

Each show was individually themed and styled and included 1920s-inspired The Charleston, Sankaku – a Japanese performance including models in boxes and blow up capes, punk rock models and Flash Back featuring the sounds of George Michael.

“We were really excited to have a variety of BIBA salons and hairdressers including our students participate in The Outsiders. It really showcased the talents of our team and also the support of the remaining BIBA teams, family and friends,” said event organizer Josh.

The event raised nearly $2000 for the NBCF, through ticket sales and a raffle – prizes to the value of $1000 were donated by Wella Professionals, Redken 5th Avenue, L’Oréal Professionnel, ghd and Uspa.

Since it was established in 1994, the Foundation has awarded more than $55 million to 230 breast cancer research projects across Australia.

BIBA’s contribution to the worthy charity ensures the NBCF can continue working towards a cure.
