Monday February 8 saw hairdressing’s leading lights unite to raise much-needed funds for the impoverished survivors of the Haiti earthquake.

Blow Off – conceived by Hamish Glianos of PEOPLE Hairdressing and his partner Gilly Parry – saw Brett Albury of Suki hairdressing, Jayne Wild from Wild Life Hair, Kenneth Stoddart of La Boutique, Phillip Gallo of Gallo Hair, Barney Martin of Barney Martin Hairdressing and Glianos indulge customers with $35 blow drys.
Haircuts were also dispensed for an additional $100 and all proceeds were donated to the Haiti earthquake survivors.
Blow Off was the perfect opportunity for the public to have their hair cut by a multi-award winning line up of hairdressers while doing their bit for those less fortunate.
An auction ran alongside the event with fashion and beauty treatments, hospitality treats and art up for grabs – all in the name of raising additional funds.

Auction items include covetable threads from the likes of Tina Kalivas, Easton Pearson and Zambesi, artworks by Kelly and Stephanie Geddes, vouchers for Longrain, The Winery and Arida and product from EMI Music and PoHo florist among many, many more.

“Originally Gilly and I had ideas of a similar event in a more neutral space – an opportunity to get together some of the real stars of the industry and create a function event afterwards,” said Glianos.
The Thistle Foundation was high on the list of their priorities before the Haiti earthquake struck – an organisation designed to support disabled people and those with long-term health conditions. “Natalie Imbruglia is a big supporter of the Thistle Foundation and they were so supportive of the idea and of Haiti given the current circumstance,” said Hamish.

Glianos encouraged anyone and everyone to come in on the day and bid for the various auctioned goods, even if they were not interested in hair services. With over 150 haircuts dispensed and thousands of dollars raised, the results were overwhelming.
PEOPLE has recently shot collections for the annual Hair Expo Awards – Glianos has entered the Australian Hairdresser of the Year category while the team has entered Best New Salon Design. The PEOPLE team are also putting on a look and learn seminar on the Monday morning at Hair Expo further cementing their profile as leaders in education.

On the Surry Hills salon front, Glianos is pleased with its progress, “Each week in the new salon is better than the last so that’s always a good sign. We are really lucky that Potts Point is so successful and established – and the new salon has been great for some existing clients who are closer or prefer the Surry Hills salon vibe,” said Glianos.
