What do you get when you cross two tv crews, five celebrity hair and makeup artists, one ground-breaking body artist, a bevvy of spray tan models and hundreds of hair and beauty brands? Salon Melbourne is what!

The hair and beauty industries collided in spectacular fashion for the event, held from April 17 – 18, and while anticipation in the lead up to the event ran high, it certainly didn't disappoint.
The first event of its kind to bring hair and beauty together in this way, Salon Melbourne showcased the top brands’ latest trends, inspiring educational program, business seminars and catwalk shows - all in onve convenient location on Melbourne's Southbank.
Salon Melbourne’s ‘fab four’ – consisting of Makeup maestros Natasha Severino and Rae Morris and session stylist superheroes Kenneth Stoddart and Brad Ngata inspired attendees with creative educational seminars on the main stage.

Saturday saw Severino and Stoddart combine their talents to integrate classic beauty techniques with a contemporary edge, recreating a Roberto Cavalli and Prada look, straight from the catwalks of Milan.

On Sunday Morris teamed up with Ngata to deliver their unique visions ranging from glamorous and sexy to sutting edge.
Both days saw Redken Artistic Director Tracey Hughes present an exclusive live trend seminar, her technical skill complemented by Redken’s Artistic Team, showcasing some of the latest international styles in fashion, cut and colour trends – the stand out of which, was a striking graduated bob.

Of the event, Hughes said, “It’s fantastic we have an event like this in Victoria because of course we’ve always had events like Hair Expo that are based in Sydney so having something that’s here for local Melbourne people is absolutely fantastic. I think it’s really important for the industry that we do have events like this – it’s great for everyone to get together and see what’s happening in trends, new products, new equipment – everything that’s going on in the industry. It’s great for Melbournites to have an event of this scale on their doorstep.”

Yolanda Bartram from BodyFX presented her groundbreaking body art on the main stage – and there was also a full schedule of seminars and workshops, including an advanced class with makeup artist Rae Morris, and from Elly Lukas College of Beauty Therapy, there were interactive workshops focusing on Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Facial Massaging, Spray tanning and Eyelash Extensions.

For those wanting a bit of a business boost, Business Workshop: Masterclaass with Jaclyn Hughes and Kochie’s Business Builders seminars were the tickets of the day.
Catwalk parades also ran throughout the three days. Pretty in Print was all about fun, flirty fabrics, Glitterati was a blinging parade for girls who are not afraid to sparkle and Black Magic showcased sultry evening wear combined with gothic glamour. Hair was by Redken 5th Avenue NYC, Makeup by Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics and nails by OPI.

But that wasn’t all. Every aspect of the hair and beauty industries were catered for with hundreds of leading companies and brands represented.
"Being able to reach such a huge audience in a 2 day period was excellent, great for business. Amazing to have hair and beauty under the same banner. Many salons are maximizing earning potential by combining both hair and beauty under one roof these days – Salon Melbourne brought the two disciplines together with flair and panache all weekend,” said Pete Walstab, Excellent Edges.
From tools to services, treatments, skincare, makeup, nails and salon equipment – Salon Melbourne was the place to be for any and every salon professional. It was a jam packed, fun-filled inspiring weekend, and one attendees are invariable looking forward to, next year, in Melbourne.
