RAFW: Goldwell for Rachel Gilbert
[Tue 04/05/2010 03:55:51]
On Monday May 3, 2010 Australian designer Rachel Gilbert presented her Spring/Summer 2010 Collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in conjunction with Goldwell.

Rachel worked closely with Goldwell Hair Stylist Sharon Blain, the owner of iconic Sydney salon The Art of Hair, whose talents are renowned throughout the hairdressing industry.
Sharon created a large frizzy bun, which sat high on the head – the contrast in texture between the slicked back hair and the teased bun created a striking look, which ciomplemented beautifully Gilbert's elegant yet edgy creations.

Gilbert explains, "The creative distinction and high esteem of the Goldwell brand and their team set my event apart from the rest. I couldn’t wait to work with them on my first RAFW runway show - it was certainly one to remember!"

The catwalk collection was simultaneously sophisticated and fun, with laser cutting, sequin and rhinestone embellishments, peplums, zips and lace featuring in designs that went from micro mini cocktail dresses to floor sweeping evening gowns - the most dramatic of which was a white, voluminous three-tiered gown. The colour palette was suitably Spring, with white, black, pinks and nudes featuring heavily.

Makeup maestro Napoleon Perdis directed the makeup, which was inspired by a young Elixabeth Taylor - with particular reference to her memorable eyebrows in the 1951 film A Place in the Sun. The models wore dramatic, arched balck eyebrows, augmented by dewy skin and matte pink lips.

OPI ‘ Do You Lilac It? lacquer featured on finger and toenails, pulling together the overall look beauty look which was fresh and summery.

To achieve the hair look from Rachel Gilbert’s runway show, Sharon Blain provided the following tips:
1. Apply Goldwell Glamour Whip to damp hair and work through from ends to roots
2. Using a paddle brush and hair dryer with a nozzle, flat blow dry the hair, directing hair towards the crown
3. Smooth the hair with Goldwell Diamond Gloss and pull hair into a ponytail at the crown
4. Divide the hair into 8 sections and with a teasing brush, tease each section and spray hair with Goldwell Sprayer
5. With a straightening iron, smooth each section
6. Carefully brush the teasing out to give a soft frizzy look to the hair
7. Carefully brush the hair in a clockwise direction around the head to form a soft bun
8. Pin around the edges to hold in place
9. Finish the look with Goldwell Diamond Gloss and sprayer to hold
