RAFW: Cloud Nine for Lui Hon

One of Australia’s top emerging designers, Lui Hon made his solo debut at Rosemount Australia Fashion Week, wowing fashionistas with a raw yet sophisticated collection.

Lui Hon was first discovered on Arena’s Project Runway Australia in 2008 and has gone from strength-to-strength, emerging as an extraordinary talent in the Australian fashion industry.

The lush collection featured trends such as nudes, draping, and jersey, but all with a slightly more sexy and boyish edge.

Cloud Nine and Lui Hon collaborated to put together an awe-inspiring show. Cloud Nine ambassador Jon Pulitano used the Cloud Nine Wide Iron to create a hairstyle that was light, natural and whimsical.

“Lui Hon’s aesthetic is quite young and fresh, with layering and jersey quite strong throughout the collection. Natural, undone hair is a key trend this summer. Taking inspiration from this style, the hair look for Lui Hon had a young and edgy, disheveled street feel,” said Pulitano.

Using the Cloud Nine wide iron at 150 degrees, he randomly waved the hair, leaving the ends straight so as to create a natural, undone texture before scrunching and rolling the hair into place.

Get the look:

1. Prep hair using a volumising spray foam to create texture and body through the style.

2. Using your fingers, blow dry hair to encourage texture and create a natural feel to the style. Once dry, create a natural side part.

3. Using a Cloud Nine Wide Iron at 150 degrees, pick up random sections of hair and create a water wave. To do this, clamp the iron vertically on the section, rotate it 180 degrees and glide for 5cm. Then, rotate the iron 180 degrees in the other direction and glide for 5cm. Continue these rotations down the section of hair. For the final rotation on the ends, only rotate the iron at 90 degrees so the ends appear relaxed. Ensure you start the water-wave at different points for each new section – start some at the roots, and some at the mid-lengths; this will ensure the style looks and feels natural.

4. Section the hair from ear-to-ear across the crown. Taking the back section, roll and scrunch hair together to form a cylinder-style shape, tucking the ends in and pinning hair down the centre of the head. TIP: Leave some small sections of hair out from the nape hairline to create a softer finish to the style.

5. Taking the fringe area from above the temples, lightly rake hair with your fingers, scrunching and pinning hair into the cylinder shape, ensuring the ends are left out.

6. Take the remaining front sections and tuck these behind the ear for a disheveled, edgy feel to the style. Mist the finished style with a light hold hairspray.
