RAFW: Redken 5th Avenue NYC for Konstantina Mittas

The crowd at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week was in awe at the showcase of Konstantina Mittas’ Spring / Summer collection. Models walked the runway to a the sounds of a live operatic performance whose high-pitched lyrical screams mixed with chimes and drums which created an amazing energy throughout the room.

Konstantina Mittas is a label known for edgy theatrical shows, as well as avant garde hair looks. Cloud Nine joined forces with Redken as official hair sponsors with ambassador Jon Pulitano creating a style that looked like it belonged on an international couture runway.

The 1795 painting ‘The Night of Enitharmon’s Joy’ by William Blake, inspired Konstantina Mittas to create a collection that reveals a paradoxically furturistic world of myth, ruled over by the Greek Moon Goddess, Hecate, that Blake’s painting is based on. Enitharmon rules over a dark, electric landscape of thunder, lightning and wild dogs, with a mixture of psychedelic prophecy, cool sensuality and encompassing drama.

The collection featured gravity defying dresses, raw fabric edges, nude, grey and ash toned leathers as well as cellophane-like fabric in a mustard gold.

As the music grew louder, the collection became overtly more sexy with garments that featured sculptural fabric folds that emphasised the feminine figure, and cheeky tights with cut outs around the buttocks.

“Konstantina’s collections are often about bringing old world style into the new world. This season’s collection was about a mystical, futuristic world with Ancient Greek references, which I used as inspiration when creating the style. I created a hard texture through the back and sides, but kept the look really feminine through the front. Overall, I would describe the look as Greek Mysticism meets sci-fi future," said hair director Jon Pulitano.

To create the style, hair was first prepped with Redken’s Body Full and Root Full 06 which was dried into the hair to create a thick fluffy texture. A halo section was taken through the top and front of the hair and pin curled set using the Cloud Nine iron.
Through the back, sections of hair was backcombed and rolled around 3 different sized ‘donuts’ to create the desired shape of the style. The pin curl set was then brushed out, directing the hair towards the back pinning style to secure. To finish, Redken 23 hairspray was used to hold the style.
