The Gathering (Part Two)

Hairdressers, business owners, sales reps and media representatives from all over the world spilled into Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay events stadium on the first night of Paul Mitchell’s esteemed Gathering event for a show that continues to certify itself a highlight of the annual two-day extravaganza.

Angus Mitchell
Notoriously serving up the skill set and often twisted creative thought processes of the world’s largest independently owned professional haircare company’s creative visionaries, the Paul Mitchell Gathering’s opening show has failed to disappoint thus far, and 2010 was no exception.
First to the floor was co-founder, John Paul DeJoria himself who imparted words of wisdom and graciousness to all those in presence – his inspiration. Celebrating Paul Mitchell’s 30th birthday, the proceeding show revealed some of the world’s finest hairdresser’s answers to the slogan ‘What Inspires You?’

Linda Yodice
Angus Mitchell communicated a fetish for the fast and furious through curvilinear cuts boasting daring corners and racy colour placement. Excited by the silhouette of luxurious cars (particularly of the sport variety), Angus’ instalment gushed ‘Mitchell’ genetics like never before – the (recently married) man executes no bounds with hair, and will continue to pull it off with divine aplomb.
The talent of Paul Mitchell colour Queen Linda Yodice leapt onto stage via Avatar-inspired beauties parading in precariously placed flashes of marine green, turquoise and canary yellow - a technical display that, despite loud, block tones, omitted a seamless and organic approach to colour design.
Robert Cromeans borrowed enlightenment from the man who continues to conceal the recipe accountable for love affairs with fried chicken every day; Kernel Sanders.

Robert Cromeans
An identity motivated by a successful business as much (if not more so) than exquisite hair design, Robert Cromeans worked his magic whilst statistics revealing the success story shaping Kentucky Fried Chicken lit up the screen behind him with insight and motivation for salon owners to grow with.
The beloved Stephanie Kocielski sent jaws to the floor yet again with avant garde hair design stapling a passion for anything, clashing dark oriental with mechanical madness. The colour was solid, the texture thick and the passion overwhelming.

Scott Cole looked up to the globe’s monumental architecture for direction throughout a series of cuts boasting gallant geometry and fierce precision – an approach teamed with on-trend colour work in confirmation that ‘fashion is architecture, as it is a matter of proportions.’
And this was all after Takashi Kitamura cut hair up-side down.
