Australia’s closest relation to European culture, Melbourne was a sensible spot for Signed & Numbered Director, Jacqui Vidal to open a gallery inspired by a bite size shop selling pictures of the Louvre and Seine in Paris’ Marais.
“Signed & Numbered was born out of the need for a gallery that truly embodies the principles of quality, affordable art. I wanted to create a space that made people feel relaxed and welcome, the right environment for art lovers to view and fully appreciate art, without the intimidation of a stuffy gallery environment,” says Jacqui.
The concept for artists such as Vexta, TWOONE and Kareena Zerefos to ignite love affairs with eccentric illustrations, Singed & Numbered was admittedly a little stuffy on launch night with quintessential Melbournites flocking to lay their cultured meets cool perspective on artworks from the fine to street spectrum.
“When you come into the gallery or hop online, you not only have the opportunity to view limited edition prints, but also find out about the artist who created it – from their motivation behind that particular piece, how they became an artist in the first place, to their top 5 albums on rotation,” says Jacqui.
Further exciting Melbourne’s cool kids with the exclusive tag, each print is signed and numbered by the artist and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity guaranteeing the print’s origin. Up to 300 different works are available for purchase at any one time and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
