Salon Melbourne's stellar second year
[Tue 12/04/2011 02:30:23]
Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, arguably Salon Melbourne’s most prominent point of difference is the event director’s vision to ensure the vibe and philosophy of its hosting city reverberates from every corner.

Attracting international style in the likes of UK super stylist, Gok Wan and encompassing the ‘effortless cool’ definitive of Melbourne’s alley way cocktail coves with the Garden Bar, Salon Melbourne served a relaxed yet riveting hall of trends, technology and a tipple or three. An intimate setting designed for industry icons and new recruits to get up close and personal in the ultimate environment for learning and contact exchange.
“I’m in awe of Salon Melbourne this year. The big thing for us in 2011 was to ramp up the education element of the event and I think the demonstrations on the main stage and education sessions have delivered more than we could have hoped for,” said Event Director, Lauren Ebbeck.
“I think the link between fashion, hair and beauty has been so strong this year and the buzz on the floor has been amazing. I really hope Melbourne has enjoyed the show as much as I have!” she continued.

Sharon Blain's After Dark Collection
Main stage first welcomed Sharon Blain as she won over the avant garde at heart with detailed insight into the techniques supporting her latest collection, After Dark. Blain’s demonstration was a master-class in achieving the most whimsical of up-dos and focused on styles inspired by her vintage collection of belt buckles. “She makes it look so easy” uttered frequently from the flock of creatives who stuck like feathers to glue around the stage’s perimeter.
Brad Mullins and Rae Morris presented the latest international trends throughout Dazzling Duos with sexy, messy hair playing stand-out. The hottest looks for Autumn Winter 2011? Texture in abundance, 70s style middle parts and loose, dropped out waves – however you wear or create it this season, make it raw.

Rae Morris
Legendary Caterina DiBiase joined man of making faces Nigel Stanislaus to present a lively, colourful presentation on winter hair direction and statement make-up.
Intimate education seminars rolled out at the hand of experts in hair Cateirna DiBiase and Brad Ngata and the entertainer meets world-class make-up artist, Rae Morris. Caterina’s audience left several steps toward matching the cutting finesse of the past Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year winner, while Brad’s class members gathered insight into the tricks and techniques supporting high-fashion editorial design – including a technique called ‘scarfing.’

Brad Ngata
Blending Queen, Rae Morris took onlookers behind the scenes of the world’s most elite runway parades by divulging her key sources of inspiration when understanding emerging trends, and underscored the importance of the perfect ‘base’ when making faces.
This year, new technology was once again found left right and centre. Nouvelle Hair Care presented Italian keratin technology and Bio Ionic Inc launched their signature ion powered hair styling tools in Melbournians favourite hue: black. The Black Collection, featuring the Bio Ionic Pass Straightening Iron and the PowerLight Conditioning Hair Dryer, both feature a staggering 32 minerals – making them the most mineral-packed tools on the market. Everescents Organic Haircare launched Berry Blond Shampoo and Conditioner – the first blonde shampoo and conditioner on the market without dyes.
For those keen to kick back after two days of discovery and renewed direction the Express at Salon Melbourne Styling Bar offered visitors below dries by the Matrix team, luxurious spa manicures by Bio Sculpture and make-up touch-ups by Gorgeous Cosmetics – all with a cheeky Peach Bellini in hand, how very Salon Melbourne.
