Alex Perry's Cuban Princess Spring Summer 11/12 collection juxtaposed sharply tailored suiting separates with Perry's signature floor-length gowns elegantly emphasised by sleek high ponytails created by Alterna Creative Director Dario Cotroneo.
Alex Perry’s latest instalment is inspired by festival fun, nightlife and the crisp upper class of Cuba. Energy levels at the show were soaring as heavy Latina beats welcomed dangerously tight dresses in colour-blocked mojitos of Pomegranate, Blood Orange and Pepper. Cut away necklines and cheeky hems delivered another intoxicating Perry-esque performance.
Models sashayed down the catwalk simply bursting with celebratory colour while pomegranates and purples made a splash – the show had a definitively festive Spanish feel.
"The inspiration was ‘the’ Cuban Princess, so it was largely based on the colours of turquoise, aqua, lime, tangerine," Perry said. "I also took some inspiration from men's suiting for the women's jackets,” he said.
Dario used Alterna’s luxury line of products to perfect hair that year after year must be polished to perfection for Perry’s shows.
“Choosing the right style for Alex’s show was influenced by the collection itself and had a very luxe look and feel. To show off the dresses we decided to keep the hair sleek, compact, high quality and minimal so we did a ballerina pony in-line with the eyebrows that gave the girls a facelift effect,” Perry said.
“Hair had a very international feel of confidence and to get the result we created a series of smaller ponytails on top of each other and then tied them together using a hat elastic. The goal was to make the hair invisible from the front on but with more attitude at the sides,” he said.
Get the look:
Step 1: Blow-dry hair with Alterna Caviar Perfect Blow Out Crème and then iron hair straight using Alterna Caviar Styling Tonic Spray for extra heat protection.
Step 2: Rub a small amount of Alterna Caviar Extreme Wax between palms and work throughout hair to make it extra sleek.
Step 3: Brush hair back very tight into a ponytail in line with the eyebrows and secure using black hat elastic wrapped around several times to create an elegant wrap around the base of the ponytail. Then spray with Alterna Caviar Working Hairspray to clean up any stray hairs.
Step 4: To give hair that extra mega watt shine, lightly spritz hair with Alterna Caviar Rapid Repair Shine Spray.
Step 5: To finish, spray Alterna Caviar Working Hairspray onto a makeup brush and glide over the hairline to ensure all loose hairs are cleaned up around the outside edge of the style.
