RAFW: Redken 5th Avenue NYC for Carl Kapp
[Fri 06/05/2011 04:30:13]
His first official RAFW show, Carl Kapp’s Spring Summer 2011/12 collection ‘Falling Water’ was a jewel coloured rainbow of evening gowns inspired by the ballet slipper, writes Mark Barwald.

Since starting his label in 2006, previously working for Kenzo and Donna Karan International, Carl Kapp has earned a reputation for his masterly draping and immaculate tailoring calling fashion darlings Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett devoted fans.

Kapp’s Spring Summer collection ‘Falling Water’ gave way to volumes of intensely glamorous silk satin in shades of saffron, berry, and rose that were uniquely wrapped, draped and knotted.

Redken stylist Jon Pulitano juxtaposed Kapp’s soft evening wear in presenting hardness in the hair, keeping it fashion-forward with great precision.

“We’ve kept it really straight across the front,” says Jon Pulitano. “We wanted to keep it futuristic, with straight square lines. My theme for a few shows has been a little bit masculine, so we’ve given the hair a u-shaped part at the back going into a side part and dropping down.”

“It’s a little bit ballerina with the tight bun, but we’ve tried to give it a futuristic edge by slicking it down low and across at the front with Redken Hardwear Gel,” explains Pulitano.
