Aveda Colour Harmony Awards

On the evening of June 12 guests braved the wet weather to gather at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, anxiously waiting to learn the recipients of the Aveda Colour Harmony Awards 2011. After sipping champagne and sampling delicious canapés against views of the harbour and adjacent city skyline, the room buzzed as Canberra-based Fringe Hairdressing cleaned the floor and took home all four awards.

The most coveted award, Colourist of the Year, was picked up by Wayne Robinson, Director of Fringe. The prize included an international education trip to the value of $5000 and a photoshoot in Culture magazine. The accompanying makeup artist, Dijanna Soldo, received $1000 in Aveda products The New Talent category was won by Sarah Karchinsky, while Fiona Marsden received both the Men’s and Stylist accolades.

More than 150 entries were received overall. Each category had three finalists, and were judged by an international panel of names including Antoinette Beenders, senior vice president of Aveda; Janelle Geason, global educator of makeup at Aveda; Jenny Burns, editor in chief of Culture magazine; Ian Michael Black, technical director of Aveda; Jules Tognini, 2010’s Hair Expo apprentice of the year; Ian Golding, photographers for Golding and Golding Productions Hair Fashion TV; Pauline Cairns, education director of Aveda Europe; and Jo McKay, education colour specialist at Aveda Europe.
The Aveda Colour Harmony Awards honour creativity, technical skill, vision and the holistic connection between hair colour and makeup through work that most effectively captures current style directions and the spirit of Aveda.
