La Biosthetique’s International Beauty Stylist Awards competition has announced Anne-Maree Young from Jingles, Hamilton NZ as the National Winner across the categories of both cut and colour.
This year’s competition, attracting a wealth of entries from Australia and New Zealand, was judged by an elite panel including Ruth Brown of Pivot Point Australia, five time winner of the Australian Hairdresser of the Year Award Shane Henning, editorial primo Brad Ngata, INSTYLE’s Jo Cowan and leading Australian lifestyle journalist, Elisabeth King.

All were unanimous in their choice of the winner with comments on the winning shots including, “transformative”, “incredibly professional” and “sophisticated with a real newness”.
“All the elements came together in the winner’s entry,” said Ruth Brown. “Often the hair itself can be wonderful, but the overall presentation is let down by bad photography, or make up that doesn’t suit the look. It’s really important for our hairstylists to get behind the camera and see what the photographer is seeing, taking control of the shoot in this way really helps with the whole learning experience”.

All of those who made the finals showed a personal voice and a level of professionalism that stood them apart from their peers in considering the whole image from the hair, the choice of model, the make up, the photography and the overall composition.
Anne-Maree will travel to Paris in September, where she will represent Australia and New Zealand in the global finals. There, she will have the opportunity to win a workshop and professional photo shoot with La Biosthetique International Creative Director Alexander Dinter.
