Say hello to blog Ms.Critique

Armed with an opinion on just about everything, Styleicons spends five minutes with blogger Cheri of Ms.Critique.

Cheri of Ms.Critique

What is your blog called? How did you come up with the name?
I was at home one day lamenting the fact that I wasn’t good at anything (read: fishing for compliments) and SilverFox – my partner in crime – told me I was pretty darn good at giving my opinion (even when it’s not wanted!) Of course, what was meant as a light-hearted stab, turned into MsCritique.com Who said I never listen? Huh? Huh?

When did you start blogging?
I’ve been blogging for the last few years, but my latest internet baby MsCritique.com just celebrated its first birthday. Any excuse for cake – extra cream please! Or better yet, why not one of those giant-cakes-on-wheels-that-a-bad-Marilyn-Monroe-impersonater-pops-out-of? Perfect!

What is your blog about, why did you choose to blog about that topic?
Y’know the kid that had to try everything? Ballet lessons: tick. Netball: tick. Piano lessons: tick. Karate: tick. (You get the picture.) Nothing much has changed and that’s why MsCritique.com is a lifestyle blog; I cover absolutely everything from the latest must-have lipstick to the hottest must-try restaurant – lo-fi, hi-fi and everything inbetween.
And if it’s new to the market, I’m all over it like Hugh Hefner and Playboy Bunnies. Okay, that was a bad analogy. I’m all over it like Oprah and fried chicken. God knows, I love fried chicken. Nom, nom nom!

Do you blog full-time or part time?
Wouldn’t it be great if I could tell you that I’m a lady who lunches and blogging is just my little pet project? Ahhh, one can only dream. My background is in advertising and marketing, and up until recently I was one-half of accessories LOLA&BAILEY.
At the moment I’m consulting for various agencies ‘round town and working on a brand spankin’ new project.

What is the best thing about blogging?
It’s been a great creative outlet, and it’s also allowed me to put my marketing smarts to good use. Hands down, the best part about blogging is the smart, talented people I’ve met on this crazy adventure, not to mention the 6593 opportunities that have fallen into my lap since it all started. Somebody pinch me! Yeouch! I was joking. Sheesh.

What have you been involved in recently?
I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with some great brands from The Lost and Found Pop-up Hotel (an initiative by Tourism Victoria); test-driving the Suzuki Alto for a week; and reporting on the Chambord Shine Awards. In November last year MsCritique.com partnered with Jockey Australia to launch their ‘Next Generation Briefs’ campaign.
And just recently I’ve been appointed an ambassador for online shopping website Cherry Pick Me.

Any last words?
Yes. SilverFox always says I’ve always gotta have the last word. Ha! Guess he was right. Ssshhh!
I feel very lucky to be given access to some of the hottest brands on the market right now – that coupled with the fact that I love to write – I kinda feel like I’m livin’ the dream. Though, Hugh Jackman topless would be the cherry on top. Hell, make that pantless! As they say you only live once. (Sorry SilverFox!)
