NZFW: Fudge for JimmyD
[Tue 06/09/2011 12:24:21]
Elemental Forces of dark and light, chaos and order inspired Hair Director Luana Coscia and her team to create a ‘witch-like’ juxtaposition of heavy to one side whimsy with random braiding for Jimmy D’s ‘It’s a Kind of Magick’ collection.

Hard steel and soft silk are tamed in a mystical new collection from Jimmy D – last winter’s black metal girl has grown up and fallen in with a futuristic clan of ‘warrior witches’ – the perfect canvas for the creative portfolio of ‘anti-orindary’ Fudge products.

The earthy, romantic and slightly punk hair, “brings together elements of darkness, light and witchcraft with an ethereal air - the look has a strong contrast between soft, floaty, textural hair and sleek, hard lines on the plaited side of the head,” said Luana.
The hair direction played host to an empowering new romance for Jimmy D with flowing tendrils of flame red silk, billowing pirate shirts, full skirted baby doll smocks, loose shirt dresses and darkly ethereal asymmetric dresses that drift languidly away from the body. The ‘drifting effect’ of heavy and light created seamlessly by Luana and her team – adding further energy to the everyday punk ‘mesh-top’ movement.

Adding visual interest with the increasingly popular digital-driven fashion prints, for the third consecutive season, Jimmy D collaborated with Auckland artist Andrew McLeod, rendering his Silk Road digital collage series into an all-over digital print on silk georgette.
Reminiscent of an old world of ‘witchcraft’ and ancient tapestries, the Silk road print is rich with intricate iconography and Japanese woodcuts, contrasted with bright blasts of colourful circuitry, brain scans and flowers bursting forth from bud to full bloom.

Fabrics include wafting silk georgettes in black and blazing red, tee-shirts in black, clean white and an over-dyed grey; crushed black velvet, power mesh panels and washed-down cotton voiles. The quintessential heavy metal tee adds an ‘everyday’ to the collection but is approached from a more primitive perspective.
“We’ve really referenced elements of punk but created a ‘finished and floaty’ effect,” said Luana, perfectly partnered by Jimmy’s low arm holed singlets, harnessing and metal luxe in high-necked blacked tees prints and spikes.

Get The Look
1. On damp hair, create a deep side part from the right side of the head and apply Fudge Pump Up and Fudge Root Lift for volume.
2. Blast dry hair while scrunching in Fudge Salt Spray to give raw texture.
3. Work through some Fudge Shaper Lite on the smaller side section to keep hair smooth before braiding.
4. Split the small section part into two sections and do two reverse braids, one above the other following the curvature of head. The braids should look as if they are coming off the scalp, sitting just behind the ear.
5. Use Fudge Dry Shampoo through remaining hair to soften and give extra texture.
6. Finish with Fudge Skyscraper and Membrane Gas to set hair while giving it flexibility.
