Some of Australia’s most talented hairdressers were revealed at the crowning of the National Wella Trend Vision Awards in Sydney.

A glamorous red carpet event, the Wella Trend Vision Awards provides a platform for new and established hairdressers to showcase their talent and creativity by interpreting one of the four Wella Trends of 2011: Polaris, Glamazon, Passionista and Lumina. Hosted by industry personality Joh Bailey the evening paid homage to young and up and coming local talent.

“Everyone was so talented this year and there were some real stand-outs. It’s fantastic to see the calibre of the competition rising every year. There were eight people taking part in the competition this year who were also finalists in 2010 and you could really see how much they had all improved,” said Trend Vision Judge Phil Gallo of Gallo Hair.

Taking out Gold in the Colour Category, Sophie Lomas and Andrew Dalbertanson from Toni & Guy Mosman presented a cutting-edge style interpretation of the Lumina trend - inspired by femininity and fused with soft tones.

“I can’t wait to go to New York. This is the third time I’ve entered Trend Vision which shows that persistence really does pay off,” said Sophie. “I chose to represent the Lumina trend with a soft, feminine cut that included gentle pink tones; a look that was inspired by Swarovski crystals.”

Honoured with the top title in the Young Talent Category, also for an interpretation of the Lumina trend, were Igor Rosales-Jackson and Jenna Del Arco from Rixon Hair in Brisbane.

“In order to portray the Lumina trend I created a short style that was really soft, which fused together both feminine and masculine elements,” explained Igor.

“My look represented the current trends in androgyny that I think are really current in today’s society,” added Igor, who looked at the blend of colours in the night sky and in orchids and flowers to create his look.

Gold winners Sophie and Igor will travel to New York on October 30 to compete in the International Wella Trend Vision Awards against over 80 teams from 50 other countries.

The talented stylists will also be granted with a preview of Wella’s 2012 trends and given the opportunity to launch the four styles to the hairdressing community in February 2012.
