Underpinned by a ‘Be Safe, Be Beautiful and Buy CHI’ mindset, the annual gathering of more than 5,000 hairdressers marked another stellar experience for the ECO Hair Products Team at the 2011 Farouk Systems conference in Cancun, Mexico. A milestone year for the Farouk brand and its global distributors, 2011 celebrates 25 years of ammonia-free hair colour and lightening systems.

Friday, October 14, 2011 marked a celebration 25 years in the making for Houston-based Farouk Systems and its founder Farouk Shami. A vision that began decades ago with an immigrant, a dream and a spirit defiant to the word “no” has since evolved into a multi-million dollar haircare empire dedicated to preserving the environment and the health of the professional hairdresser working in the salon.
On August 26 stylists, educators, distributors, press, celebrities and former Miss USA and Miss Universe title holders from 100 countries arrived at Moon Palace Resort in Cancun to be a part of the Farouk Systems International Conference. Upon arrival, guests were welcomed with an ocean-side Welcome Party with vocal styling from international songstress Glennis Grace, preparing guests for an inspirational and uplifting few days.

Lee Nesbitt's Bikers
Cliff Georgiades, CEO of ECO Hair Products took the ECO Artistic Team consisting of Lee Nesbitt, ‘ECO Artistic Director’, Tracey Nguyen, ‘Key ECO Educator’ and Andrew Voya, ‘ECO Technical Director’. Together with special guest assistant Jyle Frame, make up artist Courtney Pride and Choreographer Lisbeth Calingasan, they proved the dynamic talent of Australian hairdressing by wowing the audience and being awarded for their creativity in the Artistic Team competition.
Further impressing the audience with six models from Australia and another 14 from Cancun, preparations were exhausting and exhilarating for the group, “It’s a huge responsibility to put on such a big show with so many models in another country but the reward is ten-fold when hairdressers from across the country are so entertained and inspired by what we do,” said ECO Artistic Director, Lee Nesbitt.
Lee’s presentation opened the show, with a ‘Bikie’ theme as Lee rode a Harley Davidson on stage to heavy metal music – he then proceeded to cut a models hair while the hair was being blown about with a leaf blower, an old trick that also impressed Australian hairdressers at the 2010 Hair Expo Generation Next show. Lee’s other six Australian models stole the limelight with their ‘bikie’ inspired dance-moves.

Tracey Nguyen's Circus
The second segment from the Australian team also received a standing ovation – a subliminally 60s rock and roll theme with Jyle dancing and singing alongside male dancers in exaggerated shoulder pads further pushing the boundaries in front of an audience traditionally exposed to a more conservative hair show experience. This segment had hairdressers clapping and dancing to some globally recognised rock chart toppers.
Queen of creativity, Tracey Nguyen then closed the show with a dolly circus of quirky and overdone outfits with pops of bright colours, texture and blown-out proportions. Tracey’s childhood fantasy inspired presented was completed by a beautiful ballerina coming out of a music box surrounded by clowns and her quirky dolls. The wigs on the dolls were brightly stencilled adding incredible colour and vibrancy to the show.
A special congratulations to Lee Nebitt for being awarded ‘2011 International Platform Artist of the Year’ as well as Tracey Nguyen and Andrew Voya for being awarded ‘International Excellence in Education’.
