British hairdressers sneeze and the global industry catches a cold. They are the head of the hairdressing hierarchy, and at the top sits Vidal Sassoon, Angelo Seminara and Trevor Sorbie among others.
Some may not like to admit it, but many an AHFA and Hair Expo collection is laced with snippets of symmetry, shades of blonde and undercut features from previous British Hairdressing collections – or inspired, if you like. The people creating them are the business of the business, and the British Hairdressing Awards gathers their vision followed by their presence for the most coveted hair awards ceremony in the world. It’s interesting to ponder how much of this dedication and reputation for innovative hair design is ode to Vidal Sassoon and the standard he set for UK hairdressers.
“British Hairdressing is renowned throughout the world for its creativity and innovation, and with the British Hairdressing Awards we continue to recognise, reward and celebrate the best of British,” said Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International; Jayne Lewis-Orr.
The Milan Fashion Week of hair and this year held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, a JW Marriot Hotel in London’s Park Lane, the British Hairdressing Awards unveils the next major movements in hair cut, style and colour trends, and this year Akin Konizi submitted the finest interpretation – stepping up once again as British Hairdresser of the Year.

“I couldn’t believe it when my name was called out. I was overwhelmed and delighted – winning the title is a dream come true,” said Akin.
“The standard of entries in all categories this year was incredible and the judges had a really difficult job,” said Jayne.

They are – Trevor Sorbie, Anthony Mascolo, Irvine and Rita Rusk, John Frieda, Andrew Collinge, Nicky Clarke, Charles Worthington, Umberto Giannini, Beverly C, Mark Hill, Antoinette Beenders, Lisa Shepherd, Andrew Barton and Angelo Seminara.
