With a desire to be the most sought after make up artist award in Australia, the emphasis of the 2011 Competition was to keep artistry ‘true’ with no computer retouching or computer air brushing allowed.
Models were required to be free of any permanent make up, tattooed eyebrows and eyelids although false lashes, shimmering dust and accessories were permitted. Artists were also required to provide photos of the models prior to work and also during the make over process.
“This platform gives artists the opportunity to express their creativity and talent in a competition that is not biased to product used,” said Rob Tamburro, Bodyography Australia Managing Director. “Personally, it was great to speak with many of the entrants and talk about their thoughts, inspiration and their excitement in the competition.”
The Make Up Artist of the Year category Front Cover Fashion, asked artists to think about 2012 trends and then design a finished high fashion glamorous look - taking inspiration from New York Fashion Week, front cover Vogue and Bodyography poster girls.
“This competition brings awareness and diversity to the industry,” said judge Michelle Barclay, Pro Lash Director. “It helps makeup artists share skills, knowledge and styles, which in turn helps expand their current business and ability; bringing more to the industry in general.”

Vivianne Tran's winning entry
No easy decision, colourful and creative entries were judged by an elite panel featuring Rob Tamburro (Bodyography Australia Managing Director), Lori Leib (Bodyography USA Creative Director), Anne-Marie Cook (Spa Australasia Magazine Editor) Jodie Drago (Bodyography Australia Head Educator) and Michelle Barclay (Pro Lash Director).
“Having chosen cover images in the past, I was judging from the point of view of magazine editorial,” explained Anne-Marie, Editor of Spa Australasia Magazine. “I was looking for an image that was not only on-trend but told a story that the viewer would find compelling.”
With thick lashes, flawless complexion and a full seductive pout, makeup artist Vivianne Tran’s Vogue editorial inspired entry excited and engaged judges.
“Vivianne’s image had all of the elements I was looking for as well as beautiful artistic makeup,” added Anne-Marie. “She identified the bold lip trend well, producing a good forecast of what we’ll be seeing in 2012”.
“Vivianne’s application was defined, sharp yet classy with a clean crisp sexy feel,” concurred Rob. “Very fashion forward and very Bodyography; perfect for a front cover shoot.”
Opening new doors for those who strive to take their career to a new level, Bodyography ensures a healthy future for the most beautiful of industries.
Bodyography congratulate all participants.
