Aveda Gatsby Girls
[Thu 16/02/2012 01:25:36]
One of three key runway looks, official hair sponsor Aveda delivered Great Gatsby inspiration at the David Jones Autumn Winter Fashion Launch last night.

Aveda’s Head Style Director Darren Borthwick (The Artist Group) created three key Autumn Winter season looks on 40 models to the tune of Glamour Wave, Smooth and Androgynous.

Perfect for the season’s simple contemporary looks, the slicked, waved, Androgynous look gives the feel of a feminine edge with a nod to the Great Gatsby trend.

Get the Look - Slick, waved and Androgynous
1. Start by placing a part in your hair. For maximum drama go quite low. About the corner of the eye is a good guideline.
2. Apply Aveda Smooth Infusion Style-Prep into the hair for perfect control with no greasy residue. For thick hair use Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener to give you extra control.
3. Aveda’s Paddle Brush is great for controlled blow-dries. Dry hair using a downward motion to help smooth the cuticle down and reduce any volume.

4. Make sure your ends are smooth, and if need, spray a little Aveda Damage Control to hair to prevent heat damage and go over hair with a flat-iron to give a polished finish.
5. With Aveda Pure-Formance Firm Hold Gel, start at your part and smooth gel over the top of your head and distribute to just behind the ear. Use a large tooth comb to smooth the gel over, following the contour of the head.
TOP TIP: If you feel the gel is drying and your ends are tangling, spray some Aveda Air Control hairspray as it will wet down the gel and allow you to control and finish your look.
6. With the first four teeth of your comb, start to guide your hair from the part down over the forehead and sweep in a curve motion down and back to the hairline. Secure your first wave with a bobby pin and repeat this movement for a second wave, and secure again very gently with one hand placed over your new waves (this will stop them moving).

7. Comb the rest of your hair to the back of your neck ready to tie your ponytail.
8. With the other side of your part place your comb directly onto the part and firmly comb hair down towards the ear and pull back ready to be tied.
TOP TIP: When securing ponytail, use a small band with two bobby pins attached. Place first pin under ponytail, use the other to help wrap the band around and push this pin when taught, into the ponytail. This will help ensure that your work is kept steady and slick.
9. Finish your look with a good spritz of Aveda Brilliant Spray-On Shine and Aveda Control Force hairspray to secure your look.
