Urban Tribe Style Pacific Runway 2016

Pacific Runway returned to Sydney for its 5th instalment last week, once again bridging the gap between Pacific design talent and the Australian fashion industry.

Launched in 2012 by Jannike Seiuli, the runway extravaganza captures both the cosmopolitan qualities and Island vibes of countries such as Fiji, Samoa and New Caledonia (complete with life-size boat sitting squarely on the runway). This equally cultural and urban design aesthetic makes Pacific Runway a truly enticing event, and Urban Tribe were part of the ride as the backstage team.

“This platform was created to showcase the talents of our Pacific designers, models, makeup artists, stylists and all fashion associated professions,” Jannike shared. “There are so many talented and dynamic Pacific people achieving in their respective fields, in Australia and in the Pacific, but they don’t have the chance to showcase their skills to a mainstream audience within Australia.”

At the show on October 21, 23 of the region’s top designers showed off their latest fashion creations, with diversity championed from the designers to the models. As such, the hair looks represented this same diversity.

“When coming up with the looks for Pacific Runway it was important for me to show different variations of the modern Pacific Women,” explained Hair Director Trevor Masoe.

Trevor drew on three inspirations, first creating a classic look to represent the sophisticated Pacific woman, complete with a sleek ponytail and braided accessory in the middle. Look two showed off the rebel woman, utilising coconut oil and a deep side part in the sleek hair style. The final look utilised natural texture for a big, bold look representative of the island girl.

Congratulations to the full hair team led by Trevor and comprised of Shannon James Julian Williams, Lee Andrew, Helen Masoe, Molly Leilua, Alofa Privitera, Lina Kalepo, Maureen Lemalu, Dee Bee, Jaylyn Smith and Danielle Teddy. And congratulations to Pacific Runway, for once again fusing fashion with hair, beauty and a chic representation of Pacific Island culture.
