Introducing the First Major Hair Trend of 2017: Blorange

Portmanteaus are the bread and butter of hair trend creation, and 2017 has ushered in its very first one.

Meet blorange – the new portmanteau hair trend to make even bronde hair inventor Blake Lively blush. Blorange hair, the close cousin of the Rose Gold hair trend, is the merged word for blood orange, taking its cue from the precise hues found in the world’s most wickedly named fruit.

See the resemblance?

The trend starts the year on a salon-relevant, wearable note (we can only assume the multitude of rainbow hair trends for 2017 are to come), taking its cue from a 2016 look worn by Georgia May Jagger and making it a global social media phenomenon. It can be interpreted in a number of different ways, with many takers skewing towards a more pastel shade, while others wear the shade brighter.

To this point the hashtag #blorange has been Instagrammed around 2500 times, blurring the lines between pink, peach and orange on thousands of newsfeeds and ensuring the look is cemented as a bona fide trend.

Once you get past the absurdity of the name, you realise it’s the ideal look for your clients this summer. Do some research into the social media phenomenon (yes, Google, we do know what we meant) and embrace the insanity that is blorange – you can’t escape it.
