View The Sassoon Academy’s Underpass Collection

The Sassoon Academy is back with a collection inspired by 1970s era Brutalism. Stripped back and industrial, the Underpass collection is inspired by the concrete jungle – literally, the sculptural form of concrete, particularly in the architecture of London’s Trellick Tower by Erno Goldfinger.

This aesthetic is expressed in the hair cutting with conceptual hair, also utilising Sassoon’s iconic editorial techniques. For example, pudding bowls with peekaboo backs, chignons and pony tails take inspiration architecturally from the Mifumi by Roger Thompson, while Square Curls, created by Vidal Sassoon himself, make an appearance. Graphic sectioning also allows for a more innovative approach to hair.

In colour, a fittingly industrial palette of concrete grey, carbon blue, brick red and clay brown is used to complement sports-luxe styling. The makeup continues the artistic feel of the collection, mapping out patterns of colour across the eyes and jawlines.
