Swiss based Galderma have been an innovative force in the Cosmetic Dermatology space since 1981. Constantly pushing the boundaries, or in this case the needle, to further create new and innovative products and treatments to better service a rapidly growing customer demand, writes Cameron Pine.
Set to revolutionise the consumer experience with ‘anti-wrinkle injections’, in March 2025 after 15 years of research and development Galderma launched a brand new neuromodulator, the first of this kind to enter the market. Neuromodulator is the technical term for the colloquial phrase ‘Anti-Wrinkle Injection.’ This treatment aims to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and prevent the formation of new ones, and goes head to head with its competitors such as Botox and Xeomin to produce quicker and longer-lasting results. Galderma has reimagined what is possible in anti-wrinkle treatments bringing to market the first already liquid toxin that kicks in from day one and goes through to six months in 75 per cent of patients. This revolutionary product is formulated without complex proteins and contains no human or animal derived compounds lowing the risk of product immunity unlike its competitors. Named Relfydess, this product claims to ‘Go Beyond’ in-line with Galderma’s mission statement, helping to define a new standard in Neuromodulation.

Not only is Relfydess set to revolutionise consumer satisfaction, with results visible from day one – the longevity and trust in the service is changing the way clinics use anti-wrinkle and also allows clinics the confidence to up-sell new technology that hasn’t been used everywhere.
“Relfydess is the only true innovation in anti-wrinkle treatment in the last 30 years. It offers a faster onset and longer-lasting treatment, with results lasting up to six months. I believe we are entering a new era where anti-wrinkle treatment will become so effective that going more than twice a year will be considered archaic,” said Shape Clinic’s Steven Liew.

Galderma acknowledges that each person’s skin is unique and has its own history, emphasising the importance of personalised approaches to skincare and dermatology. In the lens of today, skin health has never been more important and such ‘undetectable’ treatments are in high demand and social media, online teams or zoom calls means our personal digital footprint is constantly on show, which has lead to the boom in non-surgical cosmetic treatments focused on the skin specifically, not to mention creative industries where events and stage work is part of the everyday. We are seeing this trend also translate into hair with the ‘skinifcation of hair’ and infredients sitting more parallel with skincare norms. Treatments that are injected into the skin or applied topically have grown exponentially since the pandemic and in Australia this industry is valued at over 16 billion dollars, significantly up from 2020’s valuation of 3.73 billion. Leading the charge in the space are skin focused solutions, bio-stimulators, skin boosters and neuromodulators.
Another increasingly popular treatment in this space is bio-stimulation. This style of treatment aims to trigger responses within our cells to stimulate new collagen and elastin fibers within our skin. This not only restores a youthful volume to the skin but also aims to improve its elasticity. Continuing waves on the internet right now is ‘Salmon Sperm’ (Rejuran). This highly talked about social media treatment is taking the world by storm, however this style of technology is not new. Since the 1990s compounds have been injected into faces to help replace and restore lost volume. Galderma is also the owner and distributor of Sculptra. Sculptra is the first and original biostimulator, with a PLLA-SCA™ formulation that activates the skin’s natural power to revitalise collagen production for a more youthful appearance.
Sculptra too has a unique journey in the aesthetics industry, originating as a volume replenishment treatment to improve the life of sick patients experiencing facial wasting. Sculptra’s applications have evolved over the years to become the multifaceted treatment that it is today. Sculptra’s applications have expanded from volumisation to include skin firmness, structural support, radiance and overall skin quality. This treatment has further grown in popularity recently due to the sudden rise of GLP-1 medication such as Ozempic that has lead to rapid and dramatic weight loss in patients. ‘Ozempic Face’ is a major concern for a lot of patients who have experienced rapid and dramatic weight loss. This is where the face has lost a lot of volume and the skin has lost its ability to ‘snap back.’ Treatments like Sculptra can help restore youthful volume to the face and allow the skin to return to its former firmness.
Skin Boosters are great ‘lunch-break’ style treatments that help to turn back the hands of time. Skin boosters are thinner, minimally crosslinked, hyaluronic acid-based gels that aim to boost the hydration in the skin – think of it like an injectable moisturisers. Galderma for the past 15 years have been manufacturing skin boosters, Vital and Vital Light. These dermal fillers help to soften and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in not only the face but also the neck, hands and chest. This treatment sees fine threads of Vital injected superficially in the creases, folds and wrinkles making them soften or sometimes disappear. Vital is incredible for correcting issues such as ‘tech neck’ these are the lines that form horizontally across the neck or rejuvenating areas like the backs of your hands or decolletage.
Moving away from traditional mindsets that procedures are purely cosmetic and not lifestyle based, whether it’s after severe -weight loss, stress or other environmental factors, a longer-lasting list of treatments remains top of the list!
