Chumba Concept Salon has become the first salon to win the coveted Gippsland Business of the Year award in Victoria not once, but twice. Chumba also took out the Personal and Other Services category at the awards this year.
Director Carl Keeley said the awards further cement Chumba’s position as a business leader and innovator and demonstrates that businesses can develop and thrive in a regional and suburban environment.
When Chumba began, it was a mere two-person salon – six years on and there are salons at Warragul, Drouin, and Chapel Street and its first franchise at Lakeside Pakenham.
“We have a developed a career ladder which provides a rare opportunity for hairdressers to enter the industry and continue the pathway to salon managers, partners or franchisees,” said Keeley.
“Chumba also offers stylists opportunities to develop artistically through its creative team which is involved in fashion week shows, industry demonstrations with Excellent Edges and Revlon Professional and competitions,” he added.
Chumba’s innovation has been recognised with a string of awards in recent years including the 2007 Minister’s Award for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprentices in the Gippsland region.
“We set out to build a regionally and nationally recognised brand and a centre for hair styling craft excellence. We will continue to build the brand and the business and provide opportunities for local people to enjoy rewarding careers in the hair industry,” said Carl.
