TAFE NSW and Wella Professionals have created a new approach to training, allowing apprentices and hairdressers to have quality industry training recognised as part of their qualification.

This creative solution represents a breakthrough for the hairdressing industry by affirming the high standard of training provided by industry sectors and enabling hairdressers and apprentices to receive formal recognition for training delivered outside the TAFE College.

With this agreement between TAFE NSW and Wella Professionals, hairdressers and apprentices who complete Wella courses and seminars will have this experience recognised by TAFE NSW.

Kim Salzmann, ANZ Studio Trainer for Wella Professionals, has undertaken the mapping of the Wella Global Education Program training to the current national hairdressing training package in consultation with TAFE NSW.

The objective of this mapping is to assist hairdressers and apprentices in gaining recognition of skills learned in industry whilst the partnership with TAFE NSW will ensure that quality training obtained in industry is recognised.

For the apprentice and the salon this also means increased productivity as the apprentice spends more time in the salon; greater flexibility in training delivery and TAFE NSW attendance days and acknowledgment of all forms of education and training that go towards their qualification.

This agreement is the first of many that TAFE NSW hopes to establish with other hairdressing companies to improve the opportunities for hairdressers and apprentices.
