Building on the success of the 2010 competition, Lakme garnered an impressive response from the industry as more than 600 hairdressers crowded into the Arthouse Hotel on Pitt Street over the June long weekend to help celebrate with the finalists and winners of the popular photographic competition.
A high-performance Spanish colour brand, Lakme now has some of Australia’s hottest talent in their hands as Michael Belcastro from Belcastro Hair in Northmead picked up the coveted Face of Lakme 2011, with a fashion forward blonde crop inspired by Prada’s elegant yet chic runway collections. The other three finalists for 2011 included; Danielle Blakely, Yoshiko Hair VIC, Jenni Spence Aoki Hair WA and Dean Tsopanis, BIBA VIC.
The Arthouse Hotel in Sydney’s CBD was swarming with hairdressing from all over the country, many stockists of Haircare Australia’s other cult brands including Moroccanoil and EVO but mostly just avid supporters, judges and their salons that were involved in the rapidly growing Face of Lakme platform. The award honours creativity and aesthetic polish by combining both technical skill and a trend based holistic connection between hair colour, make up and photography.
Face of Lakme Winner 2011 – Michael Belcastro
All finalist entries were judged anonymously by a panel including INSTYLE Editor Cameron Pine, Robert Bava from Parlour Hair, Emiliano Vitale from é Salon and Saunders & Co Publicist Laura Deane. Organised by passionate Lakme Artistic Director Isabelle Brard, the annual competition will be welcoming an even wider scope of competition in 2012.
The winner receives an all expenses paid trip to the Barcelona Lakme Headquarters and Salon International London in October plus $1,000 spending money. In addition the winner will receive their collection image in INSTYLE magazine and a one year subscription to ESTETICA magazine. Haircare Australia are also splashing the winning image across their ‘Haircare Australia’ magazine and boosting the Belcastro backroom with $1,000 worth of Lakme Products.
The festivities were further bolstered by EVOtini’s – a sweet and celebratory cocktail and a Spanish band that encouraged some hip-shaking and high-energy antics well into the night. It was the Hair Expo weekend after all.
Lakme laboratories located in Barcelona, Spain are dedicated to the research and development of innovative products and globalised techniques. Lakme’s K.Blonde Powder was used in Belcastro’s winning entry and a gloss added for shine and tone on the focal points. The Lakme K.Blonde range is ammonia-free and neutralizes unwanted yellow highlights to achieve luminous results – testament to the winning entry.
