It was an evening that focused as much on environmental beauty as it did personal beauty, when Miss Sydney Australia hosted a relaunch event and its award ceremony last week. Held at the Sustainable Salon Surry Hills, with hair styling for the entrants styled by Jodie Garvey and Kim Lockwood, the evening congregated eco-conscious lifestyle companies, fashion enterprises and salons in one successful night.
The evening opened with a speech from Miss Sydney Australia Founder Felice Colarusso, who highlighted sustainability from the get-go. She told the crowd that for every kilowatt (1000 watts) of energy we save at home or in the salon, 10 kilowatts of energy is saved in coal power plants. She stressed the importance of saving energy and using renewable products to ensure sustainability.
“Today we start our journey and commitment towards promoting and encouraging sustainability in our everyday living which is now a pioneer way of using pageants and events as a platform to spread this message,” she said.
Judging was completed by Phillipa Harcourt McNamara, Darcie McDonald, Vivienne Barclay and Johan Westen while special guests include 2015 Miss Universe Australia Tegan Martin and Joh Bailey.
