MBFWA: KMS California X Christopher Esber

One Hot Yoga Potts Point was a fitting location for Christopher Esber’s resort 17 collection – a story set in the scorching Brazilian desert – long sandy strips punctuated with crisp blue pools of water proving Mother Earth remains best reference.

The installation show welcomed Hair Director Jenny Kim behind the scenes with KMS California – the pair’s fresh, innovative practices a wise choice for the fashion brief.

“Upon viewing the resort 16-17 collection from Christopher Esber I immediately thought this girl was a Jedi,” started Jenny.

“There’s a strong utilitarian vibe to the collection and the Christopher Esber girl is a strong individual female which makes sense with the look that we’ve chosen today, as each girl will have slight individuality,” she said.

Nineties-inspired oversized panting felt grown up joined by sophisticated space-age cuts and panel detail, dramatized at times by a soaring neckline. The glistening desert sun sparkled for sleeves only while textural knotting detail weaved its way across figure-hugging dresses – the models feet banded just by tape.

“We wanted to go with a hairstyle that aligns with the utilitarian aspect of the collection, and chose a scraped back knot that looked lived in, but there are details that give it a sense of intention,” Jenny said.

“Key words are sweaty, dirty rough and raw but with intent – graphic, tribal, travelled, not fussy.”

Who knew dirty, rough and sweaty could look so damn good.
