Stellar performances and international stylists featured at one of Hair Expo’s biggest events, the Generation Next Gala.
Sharon Blain’s Renaissance collection comes to life
Distinctive Australian and international hair artists showcased their creations on Sunday night at the Generation Next Gala, one of the biggest events at the 2009 Australian Hair Expo. Held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, the gala was hosted by Channel V presenter Jane Gazzo and opened with a breathtaking acrobatics performance choreographed by Leanne Cheeny.
The work of Matrix superstar Boris Wong
Celebrated Matrix stylist Boris Wong was the much-anticipated main act and thrilled audiences with his performance, which fused cultural elements from east and west. As one of Asia’s leading hairdressers, Wong is renowned for his artistic approach to cut, colour and texture and combined live styling with key runway looks.
Anamorphosis by Togninis
The night kicked off with an Elizabethan-inspired performance from The Art of Hair, which built on Sharon Blain’s Renaissance collection. Meticulously choreographed, knaves and courtesans heralded the grand entrance of a majestic queen, whose ornately styled hair was an architectural feat.
New Zealand’s Dharma and Buoy
The UK F.A.M.E. team divided their performance into two sections – London Rocks featured fashion forward colour and precision cuts and Street Coiffure showcased glamorous forms inspired by the designer Inbar Spector. The UK F.A.M.E team was comprised of Katie Mulcahy, Christopher Appleton, Indira Schauwecker and Kathryn Dartnell who had all flown in for the event.
The UK F.A.M.E Team’s London Rocks
The Matrix Junior Design Team presented a cutting edge performance as did Lee Nesbitt, while Togninis and Next Hair both delighted audiences with contemporary collections. Dharma and Buoy Hairdressing from New Zealand showcased edgy styles from across the Tasman and guests were entertained late into the night by DJ’s following the conclusion of the runway shows at the Generation Next afterparty.
