The World Star Spot Opportunity is back in 2016, and with it the chance to go backstage to work on some of the most dynamic hair projects Australia has to offer. The five winning regional hairdressers will work backstage at the Brisbane Ekka Parades in August with Ekka Natural Fibres Parades Hair Director, multi-award winning stylist and Star Spot mentor Carole Haddad of Corcorz Hair.
“They will prepare models hair to brief daily and experience in-salon mentoring at the new, enormous Corcorz Hair salon in the Brisbane suburb of West End,” Carole explained of the prize. “This is the third year of mentoring eager hairdressers backstage at the Ekka. The first two years were so successful that we are doing it again. In fact last year, as well as the Ekka Parades, the winners got to do hair looks for a Channel 7 news feature, appearing on camera themselves, assisted at a Miaocchi photo shoot session and attended AHC training.”
The competition is open to both qualified hairdressers and advanced apprentices from regional or suburban salons in Australia and New Zealand, or city hairdressers who feel they cannot receive this editorial or runway experience in salon.
Entrants must email their details and three photos taken via phone, one of an up-style and two hair looks styled down, with the brief of ‘catwalk, fashion-forward’, rather than bridal or formal. They must also include 30 words on why this experience is essential to their career. The entry deadline is Monday May 9 at 5pm, with shortlisted entrants then to be interviewed by Carole, before winners are announced on social media on May 16.
Past Star Spot winners have won state and apprentice awards at major industry events, with success in the Star Spot Opportunity often leading to later success.
