Kinky Curly Straight Turns One

Over 150 guests including VIP clientele and media celebrated the 1st birthday of Adelaide’s trend-setting salon Kinky Curly Straight on Thursday 19th September, writes Adeline Kintono.

Owners Uros & Mojca Mikic were there to welcome the guests into their unique salon, which displays a distinct homage to rococo and baroque luxury with its floor-to-ceiling windows and black and white interior.

Champagne, wine and nibbles were aplenty thanks to The Lane Vineyard and Lopresti Wines. Generous sponsors such as KEVIN.MURPHY, Revlon Professional Colours, Eleven, Orofluido, American Crew, and Cloud Nine provided brilliant prizes for the evening’s raffle with all proceeds going to Sids and Kids.

“It’s definitely been an exciting year for our young team; winning awards, making new friends, growing our team and enjoying all those long hours in the salon,” said Creative Director, Uros Mikic. “But our approach has been rewarded with winning Best New Salon Design and taking home six awards at the International Hairdressing Society Awards.”

With Jodie Oddy from Mix 102.3 Adelaide Fun Breakfast show with Jodie, Mark and Snowy taking on the Master of Ceremony duties for the evening, the event was also a perfect vehicle to showcase the team’s ability to fuse hair and fashion with creative flair through their Spring/Summer 2013/14 hair collection. A unique and innovative runway show was in order of the night with all models dressed in the latest designs from local Karibu Boutique.

“We’ve loved bringing our vision and signature style to Adelaide and have been very lucky to have had such a successful first year,” said Business Manager, Mojca Mikic. “We were very excited to celebrate our 1st birthday with our wonderful clients and thank them for embracing Kinky Curl Straight and supporting everything we do within the salon.”

On the night, further $500 was donated to Jaylee Cooper from Sids and Kids – a result of the salon’s effort to develop an eco-friendly hair salon. The team has been collecting aluminium foil over the past year, which was then sold to raise funds for charity. Aside from recycled aluminium foil, the team has been utilising eco towels, electricity from renewable sources, and being a 100% certified carbon-neutral business, setting a high standard in creating an environmentally friendly business.
