Mahogany Hairdressing’s managing director, Richard Thompson, thrilled audiences at Hair Expo with educational seminars, live workshops and a series of star performances.
As founder of the iconic Mahogany Hairdressing empire, Richard Thompson was a celebrated international guest at the Australian Hair Expo last weekend in Sydney. The British luminary who is managing director and international creative director of Mahogany salons and educational academies, made several star appearances in addition to hosting live seminars and workshops.
Thompson was one of six internationally renowned industry heavyweights invited to sit at Hair Expo’s opening press conference. Other panel members included Toni Mascolo, co-founder of Toni&Guy; Christ Appleton of the UK F.A.M.E team; hairdresser of the year, Jayne Wild; Al Urbanowski, American Crew international educator; and the highly awarded and internationally recognised Karine Jackson.
Together with Colin Greaney (Mahogany’s UK creative director) and Tai Walker (head of colour at the UK Mahogany academy), Thompson presented the Optech seminar to demonstrate complete haircuts and colour live on stage. Optech explored the relationship between reality and illusion in hair and delved into the technical aspects behind precise yet edgy styles.
Thompson has entered into collaboration with AlfaParf to develop premium product collections for hairdressing professionals including S4U (Style For U) launched in November 2008 and the Platinum Icons collection released in March this year. The internationally recognised stylist recently finished serving as President of Fellowship for British hairdressing and among other awards, was awarded Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year and AIPP International Avant Garde Hairdresser.
