The awards were held earlier this year at Leonda by the Yarra in Victoria. The 2013 HBIA Certificate III in Hairdressing – Apprenticeship Stage 2 Award recognises achievements in career and studies, integration of on the job and off the job training, understanding of trends and education, the development of communication skills and personal presentation, goal setting and planning and achievements in other pursuits.
Following on from his first finalist nomination for 2013 Apprentice of the Year in the Hair Expo awards, Melvin was honoured to be acknowledged for his achievements.
“I am very honoured to have received this award, to be recognised by HBIA as an outstanding apprentice. I surely could have not done it without the help of my beautiful teachers at Victoria University, my amazing Mieka Hairdressing family and of course the technical training and mentorship I have received from Tracey Hughes, who has always pushed me forward and continues to keep me passionate and dedicated to my craft. What she has given me, and our industry, is purely outstanding,” said Melvin.
“To all future hairdressers and emerging artists it’s so important that we recognize that we are the future of this industry and we need to continue to aim high, to believe in our career and industry, and stay passionate for our craft,” he said.
