The annual Wella Trend Vision has become one of the industry’s most esteemed competitions due to its cult status among hairdressers globallly. For 2009, Wella Professionals are expecting hair and fashion to collide with the prize pool rising a notch in order to inspire hairdressers to challenge themselves and push their creativity.
Predicting fashion directions, developing sophisticated techniques and collaborating with some of the world’s most inspiring session stylists are all part of Trend Vision competition.
The new categories for 2009 are:
Colour Category: The new international colour category is open to hairdressers of all ages and recognises exceptional colour work.
Young Talent Category: This international category is open to hairdressers of 30 years or younger and honours the best interpretation of Trend Vision 09, with a focus on cut and style.
Apprentice Award: This is open to all full-time apprentices either studying or working in a salon and celebrates the success of the young generation with one winner per state.
The People’s Choice Award: This is chosen nationally through online voting by members of the public and the hairdressing profession with the winner being announced at the National Final.
There are some exciting additions to the prize pool. Apart from the opportunity to represent Australia in the International Finals, Gold Colour and Young Talent category winners will receive a fully funded photoshoot. Both winners, together with a Wella mentor, will create a collection to be featured in the Culture 2009 Yearbook. To further support further professional development – free Wella education for one year will be offered to all apprentice winners.
The four themes for 2009 are:
Intersexion which challenges social stereotypes – masculine and feminine worlds collide with monochrome blacks and a spectrum of greys.
Virtual Life is where the line between reality and fantasy blurs, and we become free to create our own reality – colours are upbeat with rose reds and acid yellows.
Utopia is a futuristic trend, evoking a softer world full off of emotion with shoulder short cuts of blonde dominating.
De Lush is a state of mind – a ripe and full attitude to life, warmth and radiance comes from satin browns and hair is bursting with volume, sensuality and shine. Rich copper and ginger shades bring instantly warmer complexions.
This year the launch events will be held during March, with entries closing on May 29, 2009 – the state finals photographic stage will take place during late June and early July.
