For the most part, we hairdressers love our jobs, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t trials and tribulations that are totally and uniquely stylist-specific.
Difficult clients, sheer exhaustion and the practicalities of working in a busy salon with constant noise, staining colour and forever vanishing bobby pins make for their fair share of annoyances.
Hey, at least we can laugh about it.
Which of these 15 struggles can you relate to?
1. Clients trying to make conversation over the sounds of the blow dryer.
Just smile and nod.
2. The mystery of the missing bobby pins.
Seriously where do they go?
3. Clients being too specific.
4. Clients not being specific enough.
5. Clients contradicting themselves.
You can’t cut off all your split ends and still “keep the length”. You simply can’t.
6. Or expecting us to fix their at-home mistakes.
Why won’t they heed our warnings?
7. And don’t get us started on the advice…
Do I come into your work and tell you how to do your job?
8. Wishing we could clone ourselves to experience our own talents.
9. Never experiencing the joy of TGIF.
Monday can be a weekend too!
10. Anyone you’ve ever known and their mother expecting free haircuts.
11. The curse of seeing bad hair wherever you go.
12. Snacking in between appointments in lieu of an actual break.
13. And knowing you would give anything just to sit down.
It’s such a simple dream.
14. Unreliable clients assuming you can fit them in last minute.
15. Knowing that attempting a manicure would be utterly pointless.
But even through all this, it’s worth it just to see the looks of joy on our clients’ faces… and for the power, right?
