As the men’s grooming market grows so too does the American Crew All Star Challenge, which, now in its 13th year of competition, garnered 400 national entries and 2000 worldwide. This means that the 22 Australian stylists, with 26 winning entries between them, who have been named as national finalists, are on a very significant list. View their winning entries below.
The list was decided by an equally all-star judging panel. American Crew Education Manager Phoenix Thomson, All Stars Chris Dunkley, Lino D’Adderio, Mark Rabone and Gary McKenzie, and National Marketing Director Cristobal De la Rubia made up the panel.
The judges paid attention to technical precision, artistic expression, originality of the style and cut as well as the execution of the photographic brief in deciding the finalists. There was a wide range of looks submitted, extending from blatantly groomed to overtly masculine styling, but tapered hairlines, lean shapes and tight, short fades were noted as central trends. A vast range of American Crew products were used as well, with the new Liquid Wax proving to be a hero product.
“The All Star Challenge has become a market leader in terms of both discovering and rewarding top styling talent,” Phoneix shared. “Furthermore, it showcases our great product range on great looking men, styled by the best. The real success of the photographic competition is that it brings the styling community together, sharpening our focus on our collective passion – men’s hair.”
The national winner among these finalists will be announced at an event hosted at the All Star Academy in Collingwood, Melbourne on March 6. There will be a live show, vintage barbershop aesthetic and plenty of ice cold Stella Artois and Moscow Mules to go around, making the event a great night for all attendees and the national winner in particular.
This winner will then go on to compete in the global All Star Challenge with the other national winners from around the world. The 15 global finalists will be flown to Paris to shoot with American Crew founder David Raccuglia and participate in the 2016 Style Masters Show. The Australian winner will follow in the illustrious footsteps of stylists such as Aaron Chan, Sofia Azorakos and Malisa Masci to try and claim the global title.
The stakes are certainly high. Good luck to the 22 finalists listed below!
