The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are usually a source for shocking moments (it’s been 9 years and we’re still not over what happened between Kanye and Taylor, OK?) but we like to take a step back and have a look at the hair looks that made us raise our eyebrows instead. This year, it was trending colour, long and short cuts and some new styles largely unseen on certain celebs that made the list.
When your clients want to make conversation about this week’s big celebrity hair event, here are 5 hair looks from the 2018 VMAs you should know about.
1. Cardi B
Cardi B fans are used to seeing the star with long, dark hair, often of varying colour and length – but this is a big variance, as the musician went to a full pixie cut. The new mom is entering a new phase with this new cut – we like it! That should explain why your Gen Z requests for this style go through the roof.
2 and 3. Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson
Hollywood’s newest lovebirds stole the show at their first PDA-packed red carpet appearance. All eyes were on Ariana with the world’s simplest hair style – literally just straightened hair – enough to make global headlines. You see, it’s not often the starlet is snapped without her trademark ponytail, any delineation from this style is front cover news. Personally we couldn’t keep our eyes off Pete Davidson. Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
4. Kylie Jenner
Kylie’s colour has a shorter expiry date than the milk in your fridge, and today’s hue of choice was ice blonde. Her colour choices often define the trends of the week, so take note from one of the world’s most powerful influencers.
5. Nicki Minaj
Everyone was talking about Nicki’s see-through dress – we were drawn to her ever-long pigtails. Extensions are trending!
Even more impressive was her vastly differently but equally alluring golden bob for her VMAs performance just hours later – the power of the chair backstage in full effect, ladies and gentleman!
