Manning Cartell put on an absolute show as the closer of day four at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW), recruiting musical powerhouse Delta Goodrem to the runway to perform and complementing the must-see fashion collection with hair looks by ghd and Redken.
“The inspiration for the look was Manning Cartell’s story of strong women,” said Redken Australia Hair Director Diane Gorgievski. “Women who know themselves, women who can go from day to night with confidence. Once I saw the collection I saw that this girl was fashion forward, she’s paving her own way, she’s confident. Our girl lives the lifestyle of going from morning into evening in the same rock city chic look. With the hair I wanted to create something that felt lived in, effortless but with impact, something you can take from work to out afterwards.”
This commercial day to night concept had a supreme artistic and editorial basis, according to ghd Hair Director Pauline McCabe.
“The pitch from Manning Cartell today was to go from day until night and really looking to the skies of Sydney, which I thought was so beautiful, in that golden light and the dawn coming up and how it moves and travels and changes from the day into the evening,” she explained. “Those colours are in the collection and it follows through the whole show. When we were briefed by the designers and they took us through the story, the key was joy and inclusivity, all of those key points of the brand and that natural environment.”
This theme led the way to a myriad of must-have looks, from short hair with covetable texture on top, to long hair that was natural while moulded and sculpted thanks to the ghd Helios hairdryer and diffuser, adorning a raw, organic texture with tight sides and focal points.
“We wanted to take it from day to night in the hair, almost like the girls woke up, got out of the shower and just kind of pushed their hands back through the hair,” Pauline said. “We used the ghd Helios to activate that natural texture. It was raw but also polished, which is very Manning Cartell.”
Beyond these textured looks a hero ponytail look connected to the show aesthetic by using the Manning Cartell belt from the collection to wrap around the hair. Delta also had her hair styled individually by the team for her show-stopping performance.
“The brief for Delta’s hair for her performance at the Manning Cartell AAFW show was a very lived in, rock and roll aesthetic,” Diane confirmed. “The dress she is wearing is super sexy so to complement the Manning Cartell look, we created a textured, sexy, cool-girl hair style that embodies exactly who Delta is. Delta and I have been working together for years and we use Redken Shades EQ Gloss to keep her hair shiny and healthy, which was the perfect base for this lived-in rockstar look.”
The Manning Cartell Girl clearly has star power.
