AAFW 21: Redken and ghd X Afterpay’s Future of Fashion

The closing show of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) was Afterpay’s Future of Fashion, a fashion extravaganza and spectacle of the highest proportions. Redken and ghd, with Diane Gorgievski and Rumbie Mutsiwa as hair directors, were again backstage to steer the styling ship.

“The look for Afterpay’s Future of Fashion AAFW Closing Show is a realisation of the natural, diverse, self expressive hair looks we have seen all week,” Diane explained. “It really is a summary of the week that was, showcasing an incredible mix of cultures and ethnicities, body types, skin tones, genders and hair textures and how that can all come together in one runway.”

“We have 16 designers showcasing and 90 models walking. The hair look is all about the individual; giving each model their own personal style. We have curls, straight hair, very short hair, masculine looks and gender diverse looks; we are enhancing natural textures and celebrating each model’s hair type, colour and style. We do have one super styled look for this show, a masculine side part. It’s bold and strong and juxtaposes the natural hair in a really beautiful way,” she continued.

With texture and individuality key themes over the whole week of AAFW, Future of Fashion was a fitting end to the week of hair, fashion and AAFW as a whole.

Get the look – natural hair:

To prep the hair, start with an application of Redken Shades EQ Gloss conditioning colour with Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo & Conditioner.
Working with the natural hair textures use a range of Redken Fashion Week essential hair products – Redken Guts 10, Redken Fashion Waves 07, Redken Rootful 06, Redken Forceful 23 and Redken Fashion Work 12.
Depending on the hair texture and product used either work the product in by diffusing the hair with low heat, or allow the hair to naturally set.

Get the look – deep side part:

To prep the hair, start with an application of Redken Shades EQ Gloss conditioning colour with Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo & Conditioner.
Prep the hair with Redken Oil for All and then flat ironed the hair straight .
Comb the hair in to a deep part on the right hand side, building out a really square masculine look.
