Aveda created two key looks to accompany the David Jones SS14 National Fashion Launch, which revolved around the theme of exploration. Soft feminine styles captured these romantic ideals, whilst still complementing the dozens of designers that took centre stage on the runway. David Jones ambassadors Montana Cox and Jessica Gomes were given distinct styles that suited them specifically.
One glamorous low ponytail and side fringe and another loose look with a side path sat atop casual wear, swimwear and evening wear from designers such as Ginger and Smart, Ellery, CAMILLA, Jets, MANNING CARTELL, Josh Goot and hero brand Zimmerman. With strong thematic unity and movement that was captured on the runway, the looks were also versatile enough to work with classic fashion pieces, wild prints and patterns, a varied range of colours and an ever expanding fashion landscape.
Aveda’s Look 1 for David Jones
Look 1, described as the ‘romantic look’, sees the styling at its most nomadic, with loose pieces and a windswept feel allowing the models to look innocent but sexy. “She just stepped off a horse,” said Aveda lead stylist for the show, Terri Robertson-Kirkwood. This style was achieved with the use of Pure-Abundance Style Prep, Phomollient and Witch Hazel Hair Spray, to prep, style and set the hair.

Look 2 captured an idyllic summer escape, taking the theme of exploration in a different direction. “For this look we wanted something smooth and fresh,” said Robertson-Kirkwood. “Something you would wear on a holiday in the sun.” The hair was blowdried with Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight, creating a sleek style that was swept to the side.

Shu Uemura created two makeup looks to accompany each hair style. A nude lip conveyed 60’s European glamour, complementing the retro features of the collection but still modernising the makeup in a unique way. Look 1 used a defined, smoky eye, rimmed in soft black gel pencil in order to stand out. Look 2 was softer, concentrating on long eyelashes enhanced with Tokyo Lash Mascara to create a baby doll look.
The romantic first look
Styling one of the biggest shows of Australia’s fashion calendar, Aveda and Shu Uemura conveyed the theme of exploration with soft, whimsical styles that would be at home under the 1960’s summer sun.
