On Monday 28th April 2014, French-born colouring genius Christophe Robin met with beauty media to reveal his truly original line of haircare products.
Held at the Poolside Café at Andrew Boy Charlton Pool in Sydney, Christophe introduced his entire range, including the new Exceptional Care Regenerating Mask along with his plans for a wider distribution of his brand around Australia.
Christophe Robin was 14 when he discovered his “true and fascinating passion” – colouring hair. Decades later, he has become the colourist of choice for some of the entertainment world’s biggest names, including Catherine Deneuve, Kylie Minogue, Tilda Swinton and Kristin Scott Thomas, and owns his own product range and salon.
Always ahead of the pack, Christophe opened his first salon in Paris dedicated to hair colour and care in 1995. In 2009, Christophe moved his colour workshop to the decadent Le Meurice Hotel in the heart of Paris.
While working in his first salon and tending to the hair of top models, Christophe was inspired to create the first product in his range, a lavender oil that remains a bestseller today.
“Since the beginning of my career, I have known that beautiful colour cannot exist without good care,” said Christophe. “I have been using my products for over 15 years in my salon on the most demanding women.”
Christophe designed his product line to respond to the specific needs of hair that has been damaged by chemical processing and exterior elements, such as the sun and sea. Using natural ingredients and plant extracts, the products can be integrated into colouring techniques or used to protect hair after colouring.
“When I first started working with models, most of the products on the market were for dry hair – not coloured hair. The models I was working with had bright, beautiful coloured red or blonde hair, and I wanted to use products that would treat the hair over the colour.”
“I am a hair colourist – I’m not a hair stylist. You won’t see a styling product in my range. I think some styling products make the hair dirty and difficult to wash. As a colourist, I believe in good hair quality and long lasting colour.”
The products in the range include volumising shampoo and conditioner, made with rose extracts, and Christophe’s cult product, a cleansing mask with lemon. According to Kylie Minogue this product is “a truly magic shampoo” that is one of her beauty secrets.
