The International Hairdressing Awards started their live tour of global winner announcements by naming the pinnacle title – International Hairdresser of the Year. TONI&GUY International Artistic Director and Head of Education Cos Sakkas was given the illustrious honour, in a presentation streamed live on social media, after the awards founder Mikel Luzea and global ambassador Sergi Bancells surprised Cos at the TONI&GUY Academy in central London.
“I was really shocked when Mikel and Sergi arrived at the Academy this morning – and was delighted when they announced I was the winner of International Hairdresser of the Year,” Cos enthused. “It’s been a difficult 13 months and this award is dedicated to the whole TONI&GUY team across the world who have worked tirelessly to educate and inspire hairdressers everywhere.”
Cos won for his evocative Craftwork collection as well as his monumental achievements over the last year in hairdressing, in what was his second nomination for the award.
“My collection showcases a multitude of textures – from bold to handcrafted – and I used a myriad of techniques to manipulate the hair. 3D printing, braiding and graphic, precision cutting with juxtaposed colour, I wanted to demonstrate that a style can be worn by anyone, at anytime, anywhere,” Cos Shared. The collection was created with makeup artist Lan Nguyen-Grealis and stylist Veronika Greenhill.
The global tour continues through to next week as the duo stop off in every winner’s city to notify and celebrate the winners, who will then be invited to a ceremony in May in Madrid.
Congratulations to Cos on this huge recognition!
