If you’re reading this without a headache you’ve managed to avoid the two-day hangover anticipated in the wake of the always-epic Goldwell Color Zoom National Awards night – well done to you. If you’re still yet to shake the headache, we encourage you to power through as we take a deeper look at this year’s national medallists.
Goldwell honoured their annual Color Zoom finalists and winners on Sunday night at Mojo in Sydney’s Waterloo – the restaurant of famous chef Luke Mangan. Guests had travelled from all the country to find out who would take home gold in each category, while sampling the requisite glass of champagne and predictably delicious canapés. Entrants were tasked with recreating the 2016 Color Zoom collection, D!SRUPT, an exercise in disregarding the rules when it comes to colour, cut and texture.
Presented by Goldwell Director of Education Rita Marcon, each finalist was called out on stage, with their work shown on the big stage, before the medallists were announced in the three fields of New Talent Colorist (for both Australia and New Zealand), Creative Colorist (also for both countries) and Australian Partner Colorist.
In a stellar night for Hobart’s Nischler Hair, all three Australian awards were taken out by the salon. Larissa Bresnehan, who won global bronze in the category of Creative Colorist in Berlin two years ago, was awarded as this year’s Australian Creative Colorist, while fellow Nischler stylists Christina Fuglsang and Alexandra Kontos won Australia’s New Talent and Partner Colorists, respectively.
New Zealand put forward their own impressive showing, with daring images by Katherine Parsons from Magic Happens Hair and Beauty and Bethany Lane Noa from Schnips PHd winning the country’s New Talent and Creative Colorist awards, respectively.
After the awards were announced, the winners made their way, trophies in hand, to the photo wall, while a very suave R’n’B band took to the stage to heighten the festivities further. Winners now have a lot to look forward to by way of a trip to Stockholm Sweden, where they will represent their countries in the global competition, and a shoot with INSTYLE. Congratulations, good luck – and see you on set!
