In her 50th year in the industry Sharon Blain left a double award winner, Dennis and Graham Langford were honoured for their work with TONI&GUY with an induction into the Hall of Fame, and three-time winner Jules Tognini became so accustomed to taking to the stage he swapped jackets with host Richard Reed.

As always, the story of the night comes in the form of Australian Hairdresser of the Year, so without further ado, your new Aussie champion is… Dmitri Papas, of Papas and Pace, who triumphed over worthy candidates Joey Scandizzo, Emiliano Vitale and Frank Apostolopoulos to take home the crown.

“It is a true honour to be chosen as Hairdresser of the Year – I am still trying to get my head around the news,” said Dmitri. “This is definitely a highlight of my career so far – to be recognised by industry leaders and to join the ranks of previous recipients such as Benni Tognini, Brad Ngata, Shane Henning and Sharon Blain is incredible.”

Schwarzkopf Professional started the evening in signature style, parading their latest Essential Looks collection in a series of runway shows and dance routines that took three aesthetics to their extreme. Three collections entitled Rok Chik, Hippi Glam and Pearlescent Girls borrowed a retro vibe with chic finishes that will define next season’s salon trends.
