Hair Expo By The Numbers

By now you’ve experienced, lived through and read about many elements of Hair Expo, from the floor, to the education, the parties, the Awards Night, GenNext and other events, but what does Hair Expo look like when you break it down to cold, hard stats? We took a look at the numbers that defined this year’s Expo, and pointed to the growth of the 2016 event from past years.


Around 10, 000 visitors attended the expo, and of those, 3000 spent more than one day at the event. This equals an attendance increase of more than 25 per cent from last year’s event. 3700 guests attended the evening galas across the weekend, comprised of the Welcome Party, GenNext and the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards.

The attendees were mostly Victorians relishing the Expo’s move to their home state, with 42 per cent of attendees hailing from Victoria. Those from the East Coast graciously travelled west though, with 16 per cent of attendees coming from New South Wales and a further 14 per cent coming from Queensland. 8 per cent made the trek from New Zealand, 7 per cent from Western Australia and the final 13 per cent were split among South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory.


The event hosted 150 education sessions across three stages (the Main Stage, Launch Pad Stage and barbershop-style ManStyleLab) and 10 education classrooms. Over 3300 tickets to education sessions were sold and 16 sessions were 100 per cent sold out! 500 hairdressers presented on stage and roughly 2000 were involved in the chaotic prepping effort of these performances, behind the scenes. In these sessions and shows, a whopping 1500 models were recruited to have their hair cut, styled and coloured.


This year housed 30 per cent more exhibitors than last year, over a floor that measured 7500 metres squared.

The numbers add up to an impressive showing, and here’s another number for you – it’s just 359 days until we do it all again!
